Bitcoin Price Rally Over? Key $9.4K Support Zone Holds for Now

bitbond bitcoin lending

Bitcoin (BTC) price was unable to hold the psychological barrier of $10,000 and couldn’t break through the resistance of $10,400. This rejection caused a corrective move to $9,450, leaving a $400 CME gap behind. Following Bitcoin’s severe correction, many altcoins also retraced more than 10% over the weekend.

But does this mean the bullish momentum is over?

Rejection at $10.4K triggers a 10% selloff

The price of Bitcoin couldn’t break through the resistance of $10,400 and therefore retraced towards the next major support area, which is found at $9,500. As discussed in a previous analysis, a retracement is still very healthy for the market. Bitcoin alone managed to surge from $6,900 to $10,400 in the past six weeks, which usually means a correction is on the horizon.

The overall structure is still intact, as the price is still making higher highs and higher lows. However, it’s essential to keep this $9,400-9,500 range as support. A drop further down would cause a higher low structure to be invalidated, which means that further downward momentum is warranted.

Bitcoin correction produces a $400 CME gap

The CME chart is showing a $400 gap. These gaps occur during weekends when the CME trading is closed. The market has a standard narrative that these gaps need to close before the price can continue moving, which essentially means that the Bitcoin price can surge back up towards $10,400.

There’s never a certainty that these gaps fill and the chart is still providing a few open gaps at this point as there’s also a gap at $11,800 still open and another on the lower levels as well.

Total crypto market cap finds resistance at $300 billion

The total market capitalization was also due for some corrective movements as it gained $140 billion in two months. The market capitalization rallied from $167 billion to $305 billion but couldn’t break the resistance around $300 billion.

That’s still not a bad sign for the overall momentum of the market. The 2019 rally shows that there are corrective movements along the way, which usually present “buy the dip” opportunities.

The green rectangle is a crucial support for the total market capitalization to hold. As long as the total market capitalization holds the area between $250-265 billion as support, continuation looks likely to occur for the markets. This area would provide support, whereas it used to be resistance before the breakout a few weeks ago.

Altcoin market cap bounces on massive support

The total altcoin market capitalization shows a similar structure to the total market capitalization. However, the dropdown was more severe on altcoins than on Bitcoin, implying that there’s a positive correlation in the market currently.

Why would this be the case? Altcoins pulled back harder than Bitcoin yesterday. However, they are also bouncing back stronger today than Bitcoin. This implies that there’s a temporary positive correlation.

The $112 billion levels are the last big hurdle before $140-145 billion can be tested for the altcoins. However, this resistance could not be broken all at once, which means some support had to be found. This support is currently found at $92 billion and the daily chart already shows a 10% bounce since then, implying that buyers stepped in.

Ether appears stronger than Bitcoin

ETH USDT 1-day chart. Source: TradingView

Ether (ETH) is showing more strength than Bitcoin recently, as it gained 135% since the low at $121.

To date, Ether has surged more than Bitcoin in 2020 and today’s bounce also implies that buyers are still willing to step into the altcoin. The retest of the $230-235 level is also a sign of strength as the price of Ether is now making higher lows. These higher lows imply that an uptrend is still going on.

This level is a crucial area and if the price fails to hold this level, further downward continuation towards $190 is possible. However, maintaining the $230-$235 area could generate traction towards $280 and possibly $360.

The bullish Bitcoin price scenario

The bullish scenario is relatively straightforward at this point. The price of Bitcoin needs to hold the $9,400-9,450 area as support, which would confirm a new higher low and continuation.

If this area remains support, continuation towards the upward targets is likely to occur. Another argument stipulates that the CME gaps be closed. The CME chart provides two gaps on the upside currently: one at $10,400 and another at $11,800.

If the given level holds, it’s likely to see a close of the $10,400 CME gap. However, if the market is providing severe bullish momentum, continuation towards $11,600-$11,800 is the next target.

It’s not unusual to see 10-15% retraces in an upward trending market. The 2019 rally from $3,100 to $13,900 also provided multiple corrective movements of 10%-15%. However, the structure of higher highs and higher lows never broke. Given that this needs to hold makes the support at $9,400-9,450 a crucial one.

The bearish Bitcoin price scenario

BTC USDT 6-hour bearish scenario. Source: TradingView

The bearish scenario is still valid as well. In order for it to continue, a bearish retest at the $9,900-10,000 is what needs to occur. This is usually called a “dead cat bounce,” which implies that there are not enough buyers to push the price further up and to create a new higher high.

If such a weak bounce occurs, downward continuation is likely to occur, which makes me target the $8,750 as the next support zone.

However, this would leave the CME gaps behind and would diminish the current structure of the market. The halving is still coming up in about three months, which usually tends to give a rally beforehand.

As long as $9,400-9,450 holds as support, the trend is still up.

As Malta Delays Regulatory Clarity, Fewer Firms Remain on ‘Blockchain Island’

bitbond bitcoin lending

It seems that Malta is becoming both less popular among and less populated with crypto firms. The European Union country attracted dozens of industry players in 2018 on the back of the “blockchain island” agenda championed by the local government, but the relevant framework has not yet proven to be effective. Meanwhile, the official rhetoric apparently started to shift away from the blockchain sector, as the government now aims to consolidate it with “other niche sectors.”

Meanwhile, the Malta Financial Services Authority, continues to pluck out non-registered crypto agents — be it the world’s top crypto exchange or smaller startups. But in reality, no businesses have been licensed under the blockchain framework yet, despite it being released in the summer of 2018. As a result, a number of companies have decided to leave the island over the past months. So, who is currently…

One cryptocurrency project is using Monero (XMR) to give undocumented immigrants a better shot at a fair treatment in the United States judicial system.

The Bail Bloc project collects cryptocurrency to help people get out of pretrial incarceration for cases with the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Unlike conventional charities, Bail Bloc doesn’t want your money — it wants your computer processing power.

Cointelegraph reached out to Bail Bloc co-creator Grayson Earle for deeper insight into the initiative.

Detainees make bail with Monero

Coronavirus Pandemic Reminds Us That Security Is Important During the Zoom Boom

bitbond bitcoin lending

Even with all the looming uncertainty surrounding the global COVID-19 pandemic, system security needs to remain at the forefront of companies’ planning.

Businesses around the world are shutting down under local, state or national decrees as COVID-19 fears bring caution regarding public gatherings. Unsurprisingly, hackers have used the unprecedented opportunity of chaos and panic to probe weaknesses in information technology systems. One of those systems happened to be the United States Department of Health and Human Services, making the act even more egregious, considering the circumstances.

But the problem extends beyond hackers and threats to companies and individuals. During times of crisis, civil liberties also come under threat, and cryptography often provides a shield against unwarranted encroaches by the government.

So, whether you’re a business worried about paying server and security costs during this economic turmoil or…
